Blackburn Buccaneer XX885, captured in its distinctive desert camouflage scheme from Operation Granby, represents one of the most historically significant Buccaneers of the RAF’s Gulf War deployment. This S.2B variant, serial XX885, was the last Buccaneer to undergo full modification at Woodford in 1989. In January 1991, it was painted in Alkali Removable Temporary Finish (ARTF)—commonly known as desert pink—and deployed to the Gulf with 208 Squadron and 237 OCU. Nicknamed “Famous Grouse”, XX885 bore the tail code ‘L’, and featured nose art including “Caroline” and “Hello Sailor”. It flew multiple combat missions and earned seven mission symbols, making it one of the most decorated Buccaneers of the conflict airhistory.net . This image shows XX885 on static display Surrounded by other British and US war veterans. The aircraft’s high-mounted tailplane, large intakes, and desert livery make it a standout example of Cold War-era strike design adapted for modern combat
