Panavia Tornado

The Panavia Tornado was Europe’s answer to multirole combat—developed jointly by the UK, Germany, and Italy to meet the demands of Cold War strike, reconnaissance, and air defense missions. First flown in 1974 and entering service in 1979, the Tornado featured twin Rolls-Royce RB199 turbofans, variable-sweep wings, and terrain-following radar for low-level penetration at high speed.

Three primary variants served across NATO and export forces:

  • Tornado IDS (Interdictor/Strike): optimized for ground attack and nuclear delivery.

  • Tornado ECR (Electronic Combat/Reconnaissance): equipped for SEAD and ELINT missions.

  • Tornado ADV (Air Defence Variant): a long-range interceptor with extended fuselage and Foxhunter radar.

This category features high-resolution prints of Tornado aircraft in flight, on takeoff, and in museum preservation—captured by aviation photographer Stuart H. Bourne. Included are RAF GR.1 and GR.4 examples, Luftwaffe ECRs, and Saudi ADV airframes, each cataloged with verified serials, squadron history, and archival context.

Whether you're drawn to the Tornado’s role in Desert Storm, its low-level strike profile, or its enduring legacy in European air power, these prints offer a visually rich tribute to one of the most capable multirole aircraft of the late 20th century.
