The McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom FGR.2 XV408 served with several RAF squadrons, including 6, 19, 23, and 92. In 1991, it was painted in a striking all-blue livery to commemorate the final year of Phantom operations in Germany. After retirement, XV408 was displayed at RAF Halton and RAF Fairford before being transferred to the RAF Museum and placed on loan to Tangmere Military Aviation Museum in West Sussex.

As of 2021, the aircraft was repainted into its earlier 6 Squadron camouflage scheme in memory of Group Captain David Baron OBE. It now resides as a static exhibit at Tangmere, preserving its Cold War legacy and RAF service history.
